Rice can be tricky to cook, and there are several ways to cook it: stovetop, rice cooker, instant pot are the main ones. The easiest, hands-off way to cook rice is the instant pot. No mess, no fuss, just perfect rice every time.
Ingredients
All you need to cook instant pot rice is your instant pot, rice, water, and maybe some olive oil or seasonings if that’s your thing. For now we’ll focus on these 3 things:
- Instant Pot
- Rice
- Water
Directions
This method is so simple.
- Rinse rice in a colander under cold water until the water is clear.
- Put rice and water in your instant pot.
- Cover with the lid and set it to the rice setting.
- Cook at pressure for 12 minutes, slow release 10 minutes.
Notes on rice to water ratio
When I first learned of this method I used a 1:1 ratio of rice to water. My rice turned out just fine, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret… I like my rice a little sticky. Cooking with a 1:1 ratio does not give you any stickiness. So, I started experimenting with using a bit more water. Here’s where I landed on rice to water, add roughly 1/4-1/2 cup more water. The less rice you use, use a tad less 1/2 cup. The more rice, a little more than 1/2 cup. For example:
- 1 1/2 cups rice = 1 3/4 cups water
- 2 cups rice = 2 1/2 cups water
- 2 1/2 cups rice = scant 3 cups water
