This turkey chili recipe is perfect for a cold winter day, a rainy spring evening, or just when you’re craving a bowl of goodness. Not too much prep work and lots of warm comforting flavor! It’s super hearty but goes well with cornbread too!
It’s going to rain for the next week and it’s a cold dreary day today. Perfect day to stay in and out a pot of chili on the stove. Although we had a busy morning with basketball practice for one kid and a game for the other, by 3pm I’ve got a fire going and the chili started.
So let’s make some chili!
Ingredients
- Ground turkey (or protein of your choice)
- Kidney beans
- Tomato sauce
- Tomato purée
- Diced tomatoes
- BBQ sauce
- Onions
- Celery
- Garlic
- Chili powder
- Cumin
- Garlic powder
- Cayenne pepper
- Red pepper flakes
- Salt&pepper
Instructions
Chop up your onions and celery. I like to cut my celery in half long wise then chop. If you like a chunky chili you certainly don’t have to take that extra step.
Heat a large pot or Dutch oven on medium and when preheated add some olive oil. Sautéed celery and onions 5-6 minutes .
Once slightly softened add garlic and sauté for about 1 minute.
Add ground turkey and cook breaking up until browned and cooked all the way through.
Add about 1-2 tbsp of your favorite bbq sauce and all spices. Stir to coat and cook for one minute. 2 tsp chili powder 1 tsp chipotle chili powder 2 tsp cumin 1 tsp garlic 1/2 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp chili flakes 1/4 tsp cayenne
Stir in beans, diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce.
Simmer 1-2 hours for best results.
